Membership

What is membership at First Parish?

First Parish Members do not subscribe to any one creed.  When we become members, we covenant to walk with one another in faith, committing ourselves to deepen spiritually and to go out into the world to try and make a difference.

While there is no one creed that unites us, Members are joined together in community through several common expectations:

1. Spirituality: to explore and celebrate our own personal spirituality in community with others through attending worship and being active in the life of First Parish.

2. Service and Social Action:  to give of your time and talents, finding the ministry to which you feel called both within First Parish and in the larger community

3. Pledge: to give a meaningful level of financial stewardship to support the church and its programs, to the extent that circumstances permit.  We are a membership organization, not a charity. Our operating budget is just over $1 million and ¾ of that money comes from our members' pledges. We do not charge dues, but do provide you with a "giving guide" so you can give according to your income.

What do I do to join?

Anyone interested in becoming a member of First Parish is asked to attend the New U or Minister's Orientation.  Once you have attended, membership is signified by signing our Membership Book in the presence of one of our Ministers or lay leaders.
