The Concord-San Marcos Sister Cities Committee (CSMSCC) http://www.concordnet.org/sister/San%20Marcos/sanmarcos.htm encourages peace, mutual understanding, and socio-economic development in San Marcos, Nicaragua, through programs of cultural exchange and economic assistance carried out in a spirit of cooperation by the people of the Town of Concord and the city of San Marcos, Nicaragua. Concord Town Meeting established the Sister Cities Committee in 1986 and 1987. The committee is affiliated with the Concord-Carlisle Human Rights Council. Voluntary membership of Concord citizens, financial donations, and contributions of goods and services from citizens and charitable organizations in and around Concord sustain the committee's work. For nearly 20 years the CSMSCC has:

  1. Operated a micro-bank in San Marcos under the direction of a local council that provides small loans to cottage industry enterprises at low interest rates.
  2. Provided medical supplies and equipment to the San Marcos health center
  3. Supported the college studies of young San Marcos students in need.
  4. Established pen pal relationships, in Spanish, between Concord middle school students and San Marcos elementary school children.
  5. Donated books, uniforms, and other educational supplies to San Marcos schools.
  6. Contributed equipment and financial aid in support of San Marcos sports programs.
  7. Coordinated self-financed visits by CCHS students and members of CSMSCC.
  8. Collaborated with Concord church groups (most recently the youth ministry of the Trinitarian-Congregational Church) for on-site work projects in San Marcos.
