Stand High/Stand United
Stand High Stand United is a weekend enrichment and mentoring program that gives inner city kids an opportunity to be exposed to the world beyond their community. It is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry and taps the resources of urban parents and suburban volunteers to provide new experiences to about thirty-five elementary-aged children. Whether the activity is the monthly Explorers Club meeting at the First Church in Roxbury, a field trip to a nature center, or a skating party, the opportunities for children and adults to form lasting friendships and to learn from each other enrich the lives of all participants.
Description of task:Some volunteers take on the role of Mentor, others come only to Explorers Club, still others enjoy participating in the outings. No matter how much time you can spend, the time given to these children is rewarded over and over again by a smile or a hand to hold from someone who really needs your help. Please consider volunteering.
Commitment: One to two Saturdays per month.
