COMMON CATHEDRAL

First Parish has established an ongoing relationship with Common Cathedral, a congregation composed mostly of homeless people that meets weekly on the Boston Common. Multigenerational groups make regular visits to their 1:00 pm Sunday service, and serve lunch to more than 200 people afterward.

Crop Walk
Sunday, Oct.14, 2007; registration at 1:30 pm

Enjoy the fall foliage and the lovely back streets of Concord as you raise money for the hungry. Each walker gets sponsors and raises money for Church World Service, an international relief agency and local food pantries.

Open Table
Thursdays from 2:00 to 7:00 pm IN CONCORD, MONDAYS FROM 2:00 TO 7:00 PM in MAYNARD

Open Table is a weekly dinner and food pantry for the hungry or those in need of support. Our guests include people of all ages from diverse backgrounds who share a common need for supplemental groceries, a nutritious meal and for the company of others.

Amnesty International
Third Thursdays, 7:00 pm

Members write letters on behalf of our adopted prisoners of conscience, and also as a part of worldwide-coordinated "Urgent Action"cases, which address the plight of people around the world in immediate
danger because of their ideas and their non-violent work on behalf of those ideas.

Concord Prison Outreach

Members provide educational programs at both of the prisons in Concord (MCI Concord and Northeast Correctional Center).

Domestic Violence Victim Assistance Program

Working with the Concord police, DVVAP members assist women, and often their children, with problems of domestic abuse.

Green Sanctuary
 

This group seeks to heighten environmental awareness and promote
earth-friendly changes within the Parish and in the larger community.
Meetings of a core leadership group alternate from month to month with open meetings for all who are interested in attending. Many volunteer

Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry

SAC partners with this 150-year-old institution in the heart of Boston to make a difference in the lives of children and youth in Roxbury. Be a mentor for a 6 to 12 year old through Stand High/Stand United; volunteer at Renewal House, a shelter for battered women and their children; tutor midle school and high school students after school through the Damien Funderburg Youth Program or help high school students apply to college through Funderburg Scholars program.

Jericho Road

The mission of this program is to match the expertise of First Parish
attendees and others with the needs of Lowell non profit organizations and small businesses that can help individuals and families become economically self-sustaining. By providing professional services focused on economic sustainability, Jericho Road volunteers improve the quality of life of Lowell's underserved communities.

UUSC Guest at Your Table

The UU Service Committee’s Guest at Your Table program benefits initiatives supporting families here and in the third world. In addition, First Parish supports UUSC’s work for justice through the Fair Exchange Coffee Program and targeted fundraising for initiatives responsive to current events.
