The First Parish Social Action Community (SAC) is organized to support of our congregation as we promote the Principles of Unitarian Universalism and live out our benediction, which states:
Go out into the world in peace
Have courage
Hold onto what is good
Return to no person evil for evil
Strengthen the fainthearted
Support the weak
Help the suffering
Honor all beings.
The SAC organization consists of a 13 member Social Action Board, as well as a Social Action Grants Committee. The SAC Board is currently reorganizing, rethinking how Social Action operates here at First Parish. The board is building on the Social Action Special Task Force Report, presented to the Standing Committee in January 2007. (Social Action Special Task Force Report). A strategic planning process is currently ongoing with completion expected by September 2009. The SAC Grants Committee distributes grant money collected annually from the congregation specifically to support Social Action programs locally, nationally, and internationally. Grant deadlines are in October and March of each year.
Current Board members are: Claudia Nimar (co-chair), Eric Van Loon (co-chair), Bob Andrews, Faith Bade (Social Action staff), Dave Dawson, Maile Hulihan, Alice Kaufman, Kim Novick, Lynn Randall, Suzanne Rutstein, Alec Walker, Alane Wallis, and Rev. Jenny Rankin (ex-officio).
