News Writing Suggestions

1. Observe the deadlines!
2. The editor (Kate Keleher) suggests keeping staff “columns” to between 350 and 400 words. Page 1 has space for only 350 words. (Page 1 is the minister’s column.)
3. A picture can really say more than 1000 words, so add a color picture and keep your items to about 100 words; this is especially good for “Thank-You” notes.
4. Inserts are best submitted as print-optimized pdf files.
5. Write out news articles; don’t expect the editors to remember something mentioned in coffee hour, or to compose articles in mid-phone conversations.
6. Feel free to e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) your newsletter submission. You may send attached files. You might want to ask for a return message, to confirm that your e-mail was received.
