WPA Luncheon Meeting and Bones For Life® Program
Join old and new friends tomorrow, October 17, for a very special event. Social time will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the lunch and program. Bring your own sandwich. Dessert, coffee and tea will be provided for a small donation. Reservations are not necessary. Sherry Seaver and Deborah Lotus will be the featured speakers. They will speak about the Bones for Life®, a Feldenkrais Method®-based bone strengthening and alignment program involving fun, invigorating and easy-to-do "exercises" that can be done anywhere. Bones For Life® classes are now being taught at First Parish on Mondays.

The New U
If you would like to learn more about Unitarian Universalism or First Parish as a faith community, then this is for you! Caring Connection Cooking Session
The Caring Connection is restocking the freezer on Monday, October 24, starting at 9:30. This is a way to "give back" and do a small job of social action within our own First Parish community. Children's Holiday Crafts Workshop Saturday, December 3, 1:30-4:30
Elves Needed

New RE Curriculum to Launch in 2006
Learn about our new, exciting RE curriculum called "Workshop Rotation," which will launch in September 2006. Share your ideas, get involved, or just come to hear what's in store for next fall! Katrina Backpack Social Action Project for Kids
Social Action Sunday was a big success. Thanks to all of the adults who helped to make this happen. Over 65 kids showed up for the work, and they did it all. They organized each other, divided all of the materials, inventoried each of the 25 backpacks using a "backpack recipe" and enclosed a personal note. They were great! Thanks for all of your donations and support for this project.
Senior Youth
Time to Talk, a new forum for youth to talk about issues in their lives, begins today from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Youth are welcome to drop in on any Sunday.
Senior High Our Whole Lives (OWL), a new class for 10th-12th graders, will begin on November 1. Turn in your registration form and money to Mary-Wren by tomorrow, October 17. There is a mandatory parent orientation Tuesday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Opening the Hand of Thought
Join Carol Ziegler and her Zen-inspired circle to read and discuss Kosho Uchiyama's book, Opening the Hand of Thought. The weekly readings, discussions and chance to meditate together are a good introduction to Zen for beginners as well as those more practiced.

Bones for Life®
Come try this program designed to promote strong bones, good posture and biological optimism. Learn exercises designed to put spring in your step and encourage the prevention and possible reversal of osteopenia/osteoporosis. Two versions are taught, one in chairs and one for the more limber. Co-taught by Deborah Lotus and Sherry Seaver, certified Bones for Life® teachers.

Today during both coffee hours, at the Department of Peace table, there will be an opportunity to sign petitions for a referendum that would require the Governor to recall National Guard troops from Iraq and retain them in Massachusetts.

Crop Walk Today
The 25th annual Concord Crop Walk for the Hungry will take place today, starting here at First Parish. Stop by the Crop table at coffee hour to pick up a registration form or to sign up to sponsor our minister Jenny Rankin. Come at 1:30 and listen to the CCHS Pep Band play on our steps during registration. If your car is parked in the circle in front of the church, please do not leave it parked there past 1:00, as it will be in the way as the band sets up and performs. Crop Walks fund Church World Service, which was one of the first aid organizations on the scene of the earthquake in Pakistan.
P-FLAG Meeting at Trinity Episcopal Church
The Minuteman Chapter of P-FLAG – Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbian and Gays – will meet tonight, October 16, and the third Sunday of every month, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the library of the Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street (enter on the River Street side). The meeting is free and open to the public.
Human Rights Evening
Amnesty International Group 15 invites you to the 8th Annual Human Rights Evening this Tuesday, October 18, at 7 p.m. at First Parish. The featured speaker will be Carol Rose, Executive Director, Mass. American Civil Liberties Union, who will speak on the Patriot Act and its Human Rights consequences. The talk will be followed by a film featuring victims of post 9/11 unlawful detention. For more information, call Phil Villers at 978-371-7400.
"Giving Without Loss"
The United Nations declared that its millennium goal is to eliminate poverty. This is at a time when many claim to have "compassion fatigue." Venerable Lobsang Phuntsok will speak on Tuesday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel, about the practice of generosity from a Buddhist perspective. He will address giving with limited resources in a time of overwhelming need. Following the talk, time will be allotted for a question/answer session.
