About SAC

The Social Action Community Board, with support from Bethany Lowe and the Standing Committee, has spent the last year researching, evaluating and formulating a plan for future social action at First Parish.

A report on the work has been compiled to explain:

  • The recent history of Social Action at First Parish
  • Why we undertook the project
  • What our research entailed
  • What other churches do
  • Our proposed piloting model for the next two years

The full text of this report is available on the First Parish Social Action webpage, and a printed copy will be available at the church office. Please review it, learn more about alternative models, digest it, and let us know if you are interested in getting involved! Email This email address is being protected from spambots. Our Mission

Diversity Committee 5

First Parish makes the world a better place by encouraging open and respectful discourse, conducted with humility in accordance with our UU principles. Our social action programs strike a balance between focusing our energies on chosen themes and welcoming new ideas. First Parish values community, collaboration, and inclusive engagement.

What We Do

The First Parish community gives 7.5% of its annual budget to support social action activities, through grants. The First Parish Social Action Community (SAC) administers those grants, is lay led, and supported by Social Action Director, This email address is being protected from spambots. The activities of SAC are based on the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism and on First Parish in Concord's mission statement:

First Parish is a welcoming Unitarian Universalist congregation that seeks ways to deepen spiritually, build community, and make a positive difference in the world.

SAC also oversees more than 20 Programs to encourage congregants to engage in many different types of social action activities.

In the 2015-16 church year, the Standing Committee and SAC Board are leading a congregation-wide conversation about social action at First Parish in Concord. Check out the Timeline for this conversation

SAC Conversations 2015-16

This church year, the Standing Committee (SC) and Social Action Community (SAC) Board are working in collaboration to launch a year-long congregation-wide conversation about social action at First Parish in Concord.

We are currently analyzing data collected from the Listening Sessions and Survey in the fall. The results of these will be published in late January through a congregational mailing and information at coffee hour.
