Donating Securities
It's easy to donate securities (stocks, bonds, etc.) to First Parish.
- Some people prefer this method because of the tax advantages.
- Others find it easier to transfer securities rather than give a cash gift.
For those who wish to donate securities, we have created a two-step process:
STEP ONE:
- Complete a letter to your broker advising him/her of your desire to sell securities. To see a sample letter click here.
- Mail the original to your broker or brokerage firm.
- Mail a copy to:
Business Office
First Parish in Concord
20 Lexington Road
Concord, MA 01742
- Please notify First Parish of your gift so that we may credit you for your contribution (we do not always receive donor information from the brokers).
- Keep a copy for your records.
STEP TWO:
- Fill out a pledge card, which alerts the church that your gift is coming and indicates how you want your gift to be used.
- Mail the form to First Parish at the address above.
- Keep a copy for your records.
What Happens Next:
- Your securities will be transferred to Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, First Parish's designated broker.
- On the day Morgan Stanley Smith Barney receives the "Request to Transfer Shares" from your broker, it will execute the sale of those shares.
- You will receive a letter from the First Parish Business Manager detailing your gift for tax purposes.
This process may take up to four weeks.
